Practice Management Residency
Columbus Regional Healthcare System
Program Goals
The Pharmacy Practice Management Residency program follows the guidelines and
accreditation standards of ASHP and is an organized, directed postgraduate
training program of practical experience in pharmacy practice management. This
12-month specialized residency places emphasis on issues of planning,
structure, organization, leadership and philosophy of practice in an integrated
health care system. The program helps build the residents maturity, creativity,
judgment and problem solving skills necessary in the development and management
of progressive pharmacy programs. The goal of the program is to provide the
resident with the ability to practice at a management level in a wide variety of
health care settings.
Resident Responsibilities
The resident is involved in all aspects of pharmacy management throughout the
integrated health system. Some of the resident responsibilities include the
following:
Serve as an administrative team member
Responsible for managing assigned administrative projects
Develop and conduct a resident research project
Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee involvement
Didactic and experiential teaching of pharmacy students and residents
Medication Use Reviews and Adverse Drug Reaction reporting
Staff development programs
Pharmacy Grand Rounds presentation
Clinical/Staff pharmacist practice responsibilities every 3rd weekend
Participation in national, state and local pharmacy organization meetings
Training Opportunities
The resident participates in various pharmacy practice, drug information and
practice management training segments, which place emphasis on independent
thinking and application of management concepts necessary to develop progressive
pharmacy programs. Training areas include the following.

Requirements
Residency applicants must possess Doctor of Pharmacy degree and be licensed or
eligible for licensure in the State of Georgia. Prior completion of a Pharmacy
Practice Residency or other post graduate year one (PGY1) residency is required.
A completed application, curriculum vitae, college transcripts, individual
assessment for residency training, three letters of recommendation, and a formal
interview are required. The residency program commences in late June and
provides a competitive stipend. Benefits include sick leave, medical and dental
