Pharmacy Practice Residency
Columbus Regional Healthcare System
Program Goals
The goal of this ASHP accredited residency program is to provide educational and
training experiences for pharmacists in the fundamentals of exemplary pharmacy
practice in an organized healthcare system. This 12-month program follows the
guidelines and accreditation standards of ASHP and is defined as an organized,
directed, postgraduate training program that centers on development of the
knowledge, attitudes, skills, and abilities needed to pursue rational drug
therapy. Residents receive advanced training working with experienced preceptors
to become competent clinical practitioners with a well-rounded knowledge base.
Resident Responsibilities
Through various acute care, ambulatory care, drug information, and practice
management training segments, the residency instills a philosophy of practice
that embraces the concept that pharmacists must be responsible and accountable
for optimal drug therapy outcomes.
Provision of pharmaceutical care to diverse patient populations
Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee involvement
Medication safety program
Staff development programs
Pharmacy Grand Rounds presentation
Didactic and experiential teaching of pharmacy students and medical
residents
Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy lecture (optional)
Research project
Clinical / Staff pharmacist responsibilities every 3rd weekend
Longitudinal and concentrated training in pharmacy-managed ambulatory care
clinics
Longitudinal experience in long-term care facilities
National, state, and local pharmacy meetings

Requirements
Residency applicants must possess a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and be licensed or
eligible for licensure in the State of Georgia. A completed application,
curriculum vitae, pharmacy school transcripts, individual assessment for
residency training, three letters of recommendation, and a formal interview are
required.
The residency program commences in late June and provides a competitive stipend.
