Department of Pharmacy Services

Mission Statement 
 

The mission of the Department of Pharmacy Services is to provide pharmaceutical care to all patients through the responsible provision of drug therapy for the purpose of achieving definite outcomes that improve a patient’s quality of life.  This is accomplished through the integration of clinical practice and coordination of the effective provision of medication therapy.
 

Specific functions to be performed to accomplish the mission shall include the following:
 

1.    To provide leadership in the development of organizational standards regarding safe and effective medication use.

2.    To provide guidance in the appropriate selection, administration, monitoring and anticipated outcomes of medication therapy.

3.    To identify potential and actual drug-related problems, to resolve actual drug-related problems, and to prevent potential drug-related problems.

4.    To effectively procure, distribute and assure proper control of all pharmaceuticals used within the organization.

5.    To evaluate and disseminate information about drugs and their use to patients and patients’ families, the medical staff and other health care practitioners.

6.    To participate in the education and training of health care practitioners regarding drugs and drug therapy, and promote the pharmaceutical care philosophy of practice.

7.    To initiate and support medical and pharmaceutical research and to report the findings through presentations at professional meetings and publications in the medical and pharmaceutical literature.
