Nutrition Support Residency
Columbus Regional Healthcare System
Program Goals
The goal of this ASHP accredited residency program is to provide educational and
training experiences for pharmacists in the fundamental aspects of nutritional
support pharmacy practice. This 12-month program follows the guidelines and
accreditation standards of ASHP and is defined as an organized, directed,
postgraduate training program that centers on development of the knowledge,
attitudes, skills, and abilities needed to pursue rational nutritional support
therapy in adult and pediatric populations.
Resident Responsibilities
The resident is involved in all aspects of nutritional support throughout the
integrated health system. Some of the resident responsibilities include the
following:
Serve as a key member of the nutrition support team
(adult and pediatric populations)
Assume responsibility for assessment, monitoring, and delivery of
nutrition support therapy
Evaluate drug-nutrient interactions
Prepare patients for home parenteral nutrition therapy
Develop and implement a nutrition-related research protocol
Assist with enteral formulation and diet selection
Research project
Train pharmacy students and residents
Present a Pharmacy Grand Rounds presentation
Provide pharmacist responsibilities every 3rd weekend
Attend national, state, and local pharmacy meetings
Training Opportunities
The resident participates in a broad range of required experiential training
segments. In addition to the required training segments this program allows
numerous elective opportunities to complement the residents career goals.

Requirements
Residency applicants must possess a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and be licensed or
eligible for licensure in the State of Georgia. Completion of a Pharmacy
Practice Residency or equivalent prior experience, completed application,
curriculum vitae, college transcripts, individual assessment for residency
training, three letters of recommendation, and a formal interview are required.
The residency program commences in late June and provides a competitive stipend.
